While undertaking this pool barrier compliance inspection, there was a corner of the pool fence where it intersected with the house that presented a number of interconnected non-compliant issues for this homeowner.
The compliance issues identified were:
- The brick window ledge had a horizontal surface with a depth of greater than 10mm within the pool barrier’s non-climbable zone on the approach side to the pool;
- There was a vertical gap of greater than 100mm between the gate post and the window which was lower than the top of the height of the pool barrier; and
- The upper horizontal surface of the gate post had a depth of greater than 10mm and was also lower than the top of the height of the pool barrier.
The homeowner purchased a custom-made section of acrylic sheeting from Resi-Plex Plastics. The acrylic sheeting was made to wrap around the corner of brick windowsill up to the height of the pool gate. The sheeting removed access to the horizontal surface of the brick windowsill, it also removed access to the horizontal surface of the gate post and additionally closed the gap between the gate post and the window. In all, this simple and aesthetically pleasing treatment rectified a number of interconnected non-compliant aspects of the homeowner’s pool barrier which allowed them to pass compliance and receive their Certificate of Pool and Spa Barrier Compliance.
